Thirty years ago there was a revolution in the beauty industry when couture designer Yves Saint Laurent launched his first collection of cosmetics. Fusing fashion and beauty, it was a cross-over that saw one of the first internationally-renowned designers move into an alternative field.
YSL has overseen the launch of cosmetics, skincare and fragrances – many becoming icons of their time and defining a decade of style with scents such as Opium and Paris.
To celebrate the landmark anniversary, this season the make-up collections pay tribute to the late couturier, taking inspiration from his most famous catwalk creation – the female tuxedo, with a colour palette dominated by black and white.
Autumn/Winter 08 also sees the launch of Touche Eclat for men. As the make-up essential that has found its way in millions of handbags, the concealer/highlighter is now available for guys.
Launched last week exclusively at Selfridges, with Big Brother's Stuart Pilkington as its spokesmodel, it is now available at £22.50.
David Walker-Smith, director of beauty at Selfridges, said: "Men have gone from stealing beauty products from their wives and girlfriends to stocking up on their own. They no longer consider them to decrease their male bravado."
